An unaudited review of the Q1 2009 performance figures returned by Afdec members indicates that compared to the same period last year UK distribution bookings (net sales orders entered) declined by 12%.

Meanwhile, billings (net sales invoiced less credits) declined by 6.7%. According to Afdec chairman Adam Fletcher, the level of billings decline has remained within the Association's guidance issued last December, which predicted a probable decline of between 9 and 12%. Fletcher said that he was encouraged by the news that comparing Q1 2009 with the previous quarter, bookings increased by 7% and Billings increased by 3.2%. Afdec has also issued guidance that suggest that billings into the UK electronic components market in Q2 2009 will decline in the range 7 to 10% compared to the same period 2008. Fletcher said: "The Association's current market intelligence suggests that the actual outcome is likely to be within the range of this guidance. Let's hope that this remains the case." The Association reported that total average daily bookings in March 2009 declined by 2.9% when compared to the previous month, but declined by 16.1% when compared to the same period the previous year (see Fig. 1). According to Afdec, total average daily billings in March 2009 increased by 2.9%, when compared to previous month but declined by 11.5% compared to the same period the previous year (see Fig. 2).
