UK delegates unite for 'Nanomission'

One of the UK's primary knowledge based networks for micro and nanotechnologies has announced a 'nanomission' to focus on developments in production processes for nanocoatings for renewable energy applications.

The Nanotechnology Knowledge Transfer Network (NanoKTN) has collaborated with the Science & Innovation Network (SIN) of the Department of Business Innovation and Skills (BIS), to provide a framework for networking and partnership building in the area of nano-enabled clean energy. Nanomission 2010 is a collaboration between the NanoKTN and the Science & Innovation Network (SIN) of the Department of Business Innovation and Skills (BIS). The collaboration has been formed in a bid to provide a framework for networking and partnership building in nano-enabled clean energy. Manufacturing processes to be presented and discussed include plasma and chemical deposition, sol-gel materials processing, nanomaterials manufacture, coatings technologies, nanopolymers, nanoparticles and nanostructured materials. Clean energy applications to be considered include organic photovoltaics; batteries and supercapacitors; hydrogen storage; fuel cells; bio-derived energy; thermoelectric materials and insulation materials. The mission team generated £510,000 from the previous mission in 2008. This was split into £245,000 of sales won and £275,000 of research funding, plus the setting up of academic exchanges. The Nanomission takes place in Germany and Switzerland on 2nd-5th March 2010.
