Spansion samples 65nm ORNAND

Spansion has announced that samples of its 65nm MirrorBit ORNAND memories are now being produced from Fab 25 in Austin, Texas.

Three densities are available – 512Mb, 1Gbyte and 2Gbyte – with all versions aimed at wireless OEMs. Spansion says the parts will enhance multimedia features in next generation handsets, including digital television streaming and multishot photography. “The introduction of the 65nm MirrorBit ORNAND family marks an important technology milestone for Spansion, achieving our commitment of one technology node per year,” said Bertrand Cambou, president and ceo. Spansion also expects to use its 65nm technology for MirrorBit NOR and MirrorBit Quad devices in a variety of densities to meet storage requirements in a range of applications. Meanwhile, the company has started 45nm MirrorBit development at its Submicron Development Center in Sunnyvale, California. First wafers are expected later this year, with production on 300mm wafers planned for mid 2008.
