Rohm teams with imec on ultra low power radio

Rohm Semiconductor has joined imec's research programme to develop ultra low power (ULP) radio technology for battery operated wireless devices.

The collaborators will work on RF components, ULP design IP and a low power Phase-Locked Loop (PLL). The aim is to develop radio systems with three to ten times lower power consumption than competing systems. "Rohm is committed to supplying high quality wireless products to the market with ever increasing power efficiency," said the company's Koji Taniuchi. "We further improve on our current strengths in the low power wireless communication LSI, by integrating a low power consumption PPL that is co-developed with imec. "We expect that in the near future these results become standard technology in wireless sensor networks."
