RFMD sets up multimarket products group

Following completion of its acquisition of Sirenza, RF Micro Devices has set up a multimarket products group (MPG), to be led by Bob Van Buskirk, former president and ceo of Sirenza.

According to Van Buskirk: “We expect the formation of MPG will enable RFMD to diversify its business significantly and drive new, profitable growth opportunities beyond the cellular handset market. RFMD has a tremendous range of technologies, products and supply chain capabilities that MPG can leverage and deploy to better serve our broad base of multimarket end markets and global customers.” Target markets include: aerospace/defence, broadband/consumer, wireless connectivity, wireless infrastructure, and standard rf components. Benefits are expected to include rolling RFMD's GaN semiconductor process technology into power amplifiers (PA) for CATV applications, power modules for new light generation applications and PA modules for cellular and WiMAX infrastructure. The group will also have access to advanced technologies currently in development by RFMD, including MEMS, integrated rf shielding, multichip module packaging and GaAs semiconductor technologies.
