Renesas launches safety certification packages for Synergy MCUs

1 min read

Certification packages have been made available by Renesas Electronics Europe for the Synergy S7G2, S5D9, and S3A7 MCU groups. The packages are said to offer seamless integration into safety applications and to reduce system development time by up to six months while minimising certification risk.

Each MCU group certification package includes a bundled diagnostic software library and safety documentation, with IEC61508 certification packs from Express Logic for ThreadX RTOS, the X-Ware middleware NetX Duo TCP/IP network stack and the FileX file system.

Renesas’ MCU certification pack includes: a diagnostic software library; a safety manual; and a safety application note document providing guidelines on how to use and configure MCU hardware modules within a functional safety context.

The Express Logic certification packs include complete testing and documented results for all ThreadX services, as well as a description of the process and design methodology. Test source code and test results are included, along with a plan for tool usage, unit and integration test reports, requirements for trace matrix and a safety manual.

According to Renesas, in order to conform with functional safety requirements, system manufacturers need to implement a variety of self-tests down to the device level. Implementing these tests and obtaining detailed safety information from the device manufacturer is said to be significant, enabling faster time-to-market.
