Power converters enable fast time to market says Ericsson

Ericsson has introduced two new sixteenth brick format dc/dc converters designed to provide designers with quick and reliable board mounted power solutions. According to Ericsson, the devices address increasing demands for shorter time to market.

Designed to power 60 to 65W applications, the PKU4619 and PKU4710 are primarily designed for telecom and datacom systems and equipment, but are also suitable for use in power industrial, process control, test and many other applications. "As system designs continue their use of increasingly powerful processors, fpgas and memories, many traditional 50W applications now require more power to meet new market requirements," said Patrick Le Fèvre, marketing and communication director of Ericsson Power Modules. "However, many customers prefer to retain previous generation motherboards and limit upgrades to strategic components, such as processors, memories and power modules." The PKU4619 and PKU4710 have an input voltage range of 36 to 75V and provide outputs of 2.5V/25A and 3.3V/20A, delivering output power of 62.5W and 66W, respectively. The new products are suitable for applications such as mini base stations. The devices have a 33 x 22.9mm footprint and height of 8.8mm, so can be used in low profile applications or applications with reduced airflow. In a natural convection environment, full power can be delivered up to 40°C and, with a 3.0m/s airflow, up to 80°C.
