PLL synthesiser achieves industry’s ‘highest performance’

Analog Devices has announced what it claims to be the industry's highest performance 13GHz PLL synthesiser.

The ADF4159's phase detector can operate up to 110Mhz while consuming less than 100mW of power, which ADI says is five times less than competing solutions. The device also contains a 25bit fixed modulus and on chip functionality designed to generate linear ramp profiles, making it suitable for various frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) radar applications. "Designers of FMCW radar systems, microwave point to point communications and test equipment require high frequency solutions that are capable of operating in very high phase detector frequencies without any sacrifice in power consumption," said Peter Real, vp of ADI's linear and rf group. "As the latest member of ADI's leading family of PLL synthesisers, the ADF4159 represents an ideal solution for these applications by delivering best in class phase detector frequency of operation and power consumption."
