Pass the source

Google has announced that, in partnership with the Open Handset Alliance, its Android platform source code is now available for anyone to download free of charge.

The fully customisable source code can be used by developers to create applications for Google’s new G1 Android smartphone – or any Linux based mobile phones. According to Andy Rubin, Google’s senior director of mobile platforms, the source code is an “open sourced mobile platform that’s constantly being improved upon by the community and is available for everyone to use.”
