Murata teams with Ericsson to spur digital power innovation

Looking to help manufacturers considering migrating from analogue to digital, Murata has announced a technical collaboration with Ericsson that will see each company develop a range of standardised digital power modules.

"We believe this joint initiative will encourage manufacturers to speed up their adoption of digitally controlled power systems," explained Tatsuo Bizen, Murata's president and CEO. "Initially, the benefits of using digitally controlled power sources were considered not to be worth the extra price. However, customers now can see the advantages digital control and monitoring can bring to their end application." Murata says it will introduce the first of its standardised digitally controlled power modules next summer. Ericsson's launch date was not disclosed.
