‘Most advanced’ comms DSP core launched

Said to be the most advanced communication DSP yet launched, the CEVA-XC12 is said to been designed to solve critical challenges in modern communications systems. According to CEVA, the core – which has already been licensed to a wireless OEM – delivers up to eight times more performance than the CEVA-XC4500, while consuming 50% less power.

Michael Boukaya, general manager of CEVA’s wireless business unit, said: “CEVA-XC12 is the most powerful communication DSP we have designed, incorporating techniques and instructions that are fundamental to the success of 5G baseband systems. We are truly excited about the future of the wireless industry and the possibilities that 5G will enable.“

Claiming DSPs being deployed for the latest systems are not capable of delivering the speed, latency and overall DSP performance required to for 5G systems, CEVA says the XC12 can be configured and scaled to address a wide range of applications, ranging from 80GHz mmWave to the 450MHz bands.

The architecture is said to include six ‘key technology breakthroughs’, including: a new micro architecture; ‘massive’ computation capabilities; high precision arithmetic; specialised instructions; new core streaming interfaces; and a new control plane.
