MEMS microphones offer enhanced audio experience

STMicroelectronics has introduced two new MEMS microphones, designed to provide superior sound quality as well as robustness and reliability at reduced size and cost.

The MP34DB01 and MP45DT02 units come in a compact 3 x 4 x 1mm package and, according to ST, enable enhanced audio experience in mobile phones and portable computers. In addition, they feature 'best in class' acoustic sensor technology, jointly developed with Omron, which is less susceptible to mechanical vibration, temperature variations and electromagnetic interference. Integrating ST's electronic control circuit and Omron's micro machined sensor in a single package, the units offer lower power consumption than traditional condenser microphones. ST claims the MP34DB01 microphone is the only device in the market with real high fidelity audio bandwidth. The chipmaker says it is able to deliver flat frequency response in the full audio band of 20 to 20,000Hz, has a signal to noise ratio of 62dB and a power supply noise rejection of 70dB.
