Memory collaboration

Hynix, Numonyx and Phison Electronics have signed a collaboration agreement to jointly develop controllers for the next generation of managed NAND solutions based on the JEDEC eMMC 4.4 industry specification.

The collaboration is expected to speed the delivery of the eMMC 4.4 specification, which will help to manage and simplify high capacity storage requirements and improve the overall system level performance of wireless and embedded applications. Under the agreement, the companies will apply their respective competencies to develop controllers for use with a variety of NAND flash products. Phison will supply the jointly developed controllers exclusively to Hynix and Numonyx, which will then enhance their NAND flash portfolios. eMMC is an embedded non volatile memory system, comprising flash memory and a flash memory controller. The eMMC 4.4 standard includes such features as a doubling of memory interface performance, flexible partition management and improved security.
