Massive multiuser MIMO system launched

Wireless broadband developer Cambium Networks has launched the PMP 450m, said to be the first product to include cnMedusa technology. The company says cnMedusa allows network operators to offer 5G like speeds while offering a throughput comparable to fibre.

Cambium’s cnMedusa is a massive multiuser, multiple input, multiple output (MU-MIMO) platform for fixed wireless broadband. High spectral efficiency is said to allow wireless services providers to offer triple play services to existing subscribers and to add new customers without requiring additional spectrum.

MU-MIMO technology is said by Cambium to offer up to four times more network capacity and ‘groundbreaking’ spectral efficiency. Key features include the ability to transmit more than 400Mbit/s in a 20MHz channel.

Atul Bhatnagar, Cambium’s president and CEO, said: “MU-MIMO allows fixed wireless network operators to offer industry-leading cost, scalability and reach advantages – particularly in traditionally underserved areas – with speeds and reliability exceeding wired networks. This capability allows people in nearly any location to experience the media-rich content they expect, even in sparsely populated and difficult to reach areas of the world.”
