LED spin out announced by Tyndall

Irish Minister for Research and Innovation, Sean Sherlock TD has announced the launched a high tech spin out, InfiniLED at Cork based Tyndall National Institute.

InfiniLED is commercialising a new generation of LED technology, which is designed to 'significantly' extend the battery life for portable devices such as cameras, mobile phones and laptops. Further applications include medical and analytical instrumentation by producing more usable light, using less energy. The Micro LED technology was invented by a team of researchers led by Brian Corbett at Tyndall National Institute, supported and funded by Enterprise Ireland. Under the EI Business Partner Programme, Entrepreneur Joe O Keeffe, who has already spun out a series of successful companies, evaluated the commercial potential of the Micro LED leading to the launch of the new company. According to O Keeffe, the new technology extends battery life by up to five times relative to the current devices for any device with an lcd display.
