Intersil claims ‘industry first’ for synchronous POL regulator

1 min read

Intersil has announced what it claims to be the industry's first fully integrated synchronous POL regulator for low voltage ics in rad-hard and high reliability systems.

The ISL70001SRH single chip point of load synchronous buck regulator has been designed for applications such as satellite systems, nuclear reactor equipment and systems that require pol power in extreme temperature and radiation intensive environments. It integrates 6A power mosfets, mosfet drivers and a 1MHz pwm controller in a single package. According to Intersil, two ISL70001SRH devices can be synchronised 180 degrees out of phase to reduce input rms ripple current and the size of input filter components. The device operates over an input voltage range of 3 to 5.5V and has been designed to provide a regulated output voltage that is externally adjustable from 0.8V up to 85% of the input voltage. Output current capability is 6A for TJ up to 145°C. An analogue soft start circuit controls start up, and can be adjusted from approximately 2 to 200ms using an external capacitor.
