Infineon, Atmel settle mcu patent infringement argument

Infineon Technologies and Atmel have settled a two year old patent infringement case and both companies are asking for all claims to be dismissed.

The proceedings were launched by Infineon in the US in April 2011, when it filed a complaint against Atmel relating to microcontrollers. The two companies have settled the dispute by entering into what is described as a 'broad patent cross license'. As part of the confidential settlement, Atmel will pay Infineon an undisclosed sum. "Infineon is pleased to have reached this agreement with Atmel," sais Michael von Eickstedt, Infineon's corporate vice president for legal and patents. "This outcome is a further affirmation of our ongoing efforts to vigorously protect our intellectual property rights and business interests."
