‘Industry’s first’ programmable clock generator with LVCMOS and differential outputs

SiTime has announced the availability of a 3-PLL, 5 output device claimed to be the 'world's first' MEMS based clock generator to offer mixed LVCMOS and differential outputs in a single package. The SiT9105 reduces board space by up to 66% and has been optimised for high performance networking applications such as routers, switches, bridges, servers, base stations and repeaters.

"Unlike the quartz industry, SiTime is using silicon technology to accelerate the pace of innovation in the timing industry," said Piyush Sevalia, vice president of marketing. "Previously, engineers used several discrete components to implement the same functionality that is offered by the SiT9105. By integrating this functionality into a single package, the SiT9105 programmable clock generator offers board space, size, and BOM cost saving to the customer." The device has a range of programmable features and multiple timing sources. It combines single ended and differential outputs on a single chip and according to SiTime, the embedded resonator removes the need for an external clock or to qualify an external crystal source. The SiT9105 is said to deliver 'best in class' frequency stability as low as ±25PPM and operates from 1.8, 2.5 or 3.3V. It can generate up to three unrelated frequencies, including two frequencies on single ended outputs and one on the differential output. In addition, it supports any frequency from 1 to 220MHz with 5 decimal places of accuracy, enabling system performance optimisation.
