IGBT module range beefed up

Infineon is expanding its range of 62mm IGBT modules in response to growing demand for higher power density devices. According to the company, it has achieved this by using a larger chip area and an adapted direct copper bonded (DCB) substrate in the proven 62mm package.

Typical applications for modules with a 1200V blocking voltage are drives, solar inverters and uninterruptible power supplies, while medium voltage drives suit modules with 1700V blocking voltage.

With a blocking voltage of 1200V, the 62mm module has a maximum current rating of 600A. At 1700V, the maximum current rating is 500A. The package is equipped with an industry standard baseplate, allowing itto be integrated into existing designs, providing – according to the company – 20% more output power when used with drives.

Two versions of the power module are available in the ‘common emitter’ configuration, allowing a three level topology to be set up. This, Infineon notes, allows an efficient use in solar and UPS applications where the demand for power is high.
