HyperCat consortium aims to spur on the IoT

Looking to spur on the development of the Internet of Things, a consortium of 40 UK based tech companies has established a new open specification called HyperCat.

Backed by £6.4million of Technology Strategy Board (TSB) funding, HyperCat allows machines to work together over the internet and for applications to discover and make sense of data automatically without human intervention. HyperCat was created by development teams from major companies including ARM, BT and IBM, as well as several IoT start ups and UK universities. Given the appropriate push by government, it is expected to become a standard. Justin Anderson, CEO and Founder of IoT company Flexeye, said: "As new entrants to the IoT market strive to deliver revolutionary solutions at an extraordinary pace, HyperCat will help ensure that these players can securely speak a common language. "I'm confident that the TSB's investment in this interoperability initiative has helped put the UK in a global leadership position and will in turn support the UK economy by creating new jobs and attracting foreign investment to our shores."
