GPS’ ‘smallest’ standalone receiver
Distributor, Alpha Micro Components has teamed up with u-blox to resell what it describes as the GPS industry's 'smallest standalone receiver' on the market.
U-blox' AMY-5M is 6.5 x 8 x 1.2mm and allows integration into small portable devices. The ROM based module features a 50 channel u-blox 5 positioning engine and has been designed to withstand a temperature range of –40 to 85°C.
Huub Robroek, u-blox' area sales manager, said: "GPS used to be perceived as an added extra, especially in the consumer device market, however more and more it is being seen as a given feature in automotive design and most handheld devices."
Alpha's managing director, Christos Papakyriacou, added: "The miniaturised product market is constantly developing and this component from u-blox allows to address the growing demands for GPS enabled portable equipment."
