Government puts £120m into supporting technology transfer

Chancellor Philip Hammond, pictured, has announced a £220million support package for the life science and university sectors, intended to help technology breakthroughs translate into commercial success.

Included in the package is £120m of tech transfer funding for universities, to be delivered over the next four years. According to the Chancellor, this will promote collaboration to effectively engage business on the most promising technologies.

Announcing the funding at the Conservative Party Conference in Birmingham, the Chancellor said: “A whole new world that would have sounded like science fiction just a few years ago is now a reality taking shape in laboratories, incubators and factories across Britain.

“There is a once in a generation opportunity for Britain to cement its role as a leader in tech innovation.”
