Giant tablet uses Zytronic touch sensors

Zytronic's patented Projected Capacitive Technology has been selected for use in a giant digital signage unit being deployed across Europe.

The UK firm's ZYBRID touch sensors utilise a combination of micro-fine copper capacitors just 10µm in diameter – making them effectively invisible on a powered display. The 72in touch enabled display units, manufactured by Surtronic, basically act like supersized tablet computers. Users can swipe, flick and pinch gestures to get directions from their current position to various shops and other amenities in the vicinity. They can also upload user content such as pictures and comments via a built-in camera. The technology is unaffected by liquid, dust and dirt and will even work with gloved hands. Surtronic is now planning to install the units in retail areas across Europe, as well as in transportation hubs, such as train stations, where they will provide interactive travel information and timetables.
