Freescale adds 8in MEMS line

Freescale has established an 8in MEMS production line at its Oak Hill fab in Austin to meet growing demand for sensors. The line complements its 6inch MEMS facility in Japan.

According to the company, the 200mm line will allow it to explore and integrate new MEMS capabilities and to address major competitive challenges, such as power consumption, cost effectiveness and form factors. “As customers continue to demand low cost, robust and highly functional sensors in smaller form factors, Freescale's additional 200mm MEMS manufacturing line will help to satisfy the upsurge of application opportunities in the price sensitive automotive, industrial, medical and consumer markets,” said Demetre Kondylis, vice president and general manager of Freescale’s Sensor and Actuator Solutions Division.
