Fujitsu Microelectronics Europe (FME) has announced Dr Joji Murakami, pictured, as the company's new president.

Based at FME's European headquarters in Langen, near Frankfurt, he will succeed Shimpei Hirata, who has returned to Japan to take up a new position with Fujitsu's Electronic Devices division. Murakami, previously corporate vice president at Fujitsu Microelectronics Ltd in Japan, said he was looking forward to the new challenge. He explained: "I am attracted by Europe's industrial and cultural traditions and see its strengths in the fields of automotive, industrial, mobile communications and telecommunications. The team at FME is highly dedicated, and in joining them I look forward to contributing to business development. I am well aware that difficult times may lie ahead, but remain convinced that today we are ideally positioned to offer value-added service, design and solutions to key European markets." It has also been announced that Brendan Mc Kearney, vice president, sales and supply chain at FME, has been appointed managing director of FME.
