Claiming an industry first, Bosch Sensortec has launched a device which combines sensors for pressure, humidity and temperature in a single package.

The BME280 is suitable for consumer applications including indoor navigation, home automation control, personalised weather stations and fitness devices. Bosch says it offers a best in class response time of just one second for humidity determination, excellent ambient temperature measurement and low energy consumption. The sensor unit is available in an 8pin LGA package measuring 2.5 x 2.5mm2. It offers a low current consumption of 3.6µA at 1Hz and comes with three power modes. The humidity sensor within the unit measures relative humidity (0 to 100%) across a temperature range of -40 to 85°C with a response time of less than one second. The humidity measurement accuracy is rated at ±3% with a hysteresis of 2% or better, and the temperature reading accuracy is within 0.5°C. Bosch will be showcasing the BME280 all this week at the 2014 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) IN Las Vegas.
