Development kit targets CSRmesh applications

Bluetooth pioneer CSR has launched the CSRmesh Development Kit, designed to help engineers explore the potential of the CSRmesh Bluetooth Smart protocol. The kit includes development boards, a USB programmer and access to a development platform with example applications. The development platform will initially feature software supporting networked lighting applications, but updates for home automation and other IoT applications will be available later in the year.

The CSRmesh protocol, announced earlier this year, allows an almost unlimited number of Bluetooth Smart enabled devices to be networked and controlled from a single smartphone, tablet or PC. According to the company, CSRmesh has already been adopted by several tier one lighting manufacturers. "We are seeing Bluetooth Smart underpinning many more products as the IoT shifts from concept to reality," says Rick Walker, IoT marketing manager for CSR. "By launching the CSRmesh Development Kit we are equipping developers with the tools they need to innovate and take advantage of the many opportunities offered by the IoT. We are helping them to bring networked devices to market as quickly and simply as possible." The CSRmesh protocol uses Bluetooth Smart to send messages to other Bluetooth Smart devices in the network, which can then relay them. Messages can be addressed to individual devices or to groups and devices can also belong to multiple groups.
