Crossbow to hit the target?

Taking advantage of the launch of Flexis, Future Electronics has expanded its Blox board range with the introduction of Crossbow.

The board uses daughter board plug ins to help designers to explore the use of 8 to 32bit Freescale mcus in system prototypes. Fred Knowles, Future’s vp of technical sales, said: “At the hardware level, it’s as simple to try a different mcu in your prototype as it is to put an electric plug in a wall outlet – and you can even use the same code.” Crossbow is now available, with plug ins available for the 8bit MC9S08QE128 and the 32bit MCF51QE128. Software written for one mcu will run unmodified on the other device. Future’s Blox format allows designers to build applications by connecting together one or more boards. “This announcement allows them to build a Future-Blox board that houses 8 or 32bit mcus,” said Knowles. “Thinking ahead, the road map targets other pin for pin devices and we can build the board in such a way that it caters for the next 18 months.”
