Avnet says it has reached agreement with the Premier Farnell’s directors to acquire the company in an all cash offer which values the distributor at £691million. This is said to be a 12.1% premium over the offer from Datwyler, which was initially accepted by Premier Farnell’s board.

“This acquisition will strengthen Avnet’s digital footprint worldwide significantly. The convergence of Premier Farnell’s innovative online services with Avnet’s world class supply chain will create customer service unparalleled in the industry,” said William Amelio, pictured, Avnet’s interim CEO. “The talented team at Premier Farnell will allow Avnet to enhance its customer experience and accelerate global growth.”

Documents released by Premier Farnell show talks with Avnet have been underway at least since the beginning of 2016 and that a ‘clean team’ has been at work since the beginning of July.

“Premier Farnell will bolster our strategy to provide a differentiated digital experience from product ideation through its lifecycle. Its customers gain access to an extensive suite of supply chain services,” said Gerry Fay, president of Avnet Electronics Marketing, Worldwide, “allowing them to ramp new products to production volumes. Our customers will be able to do more technical research online through the services provided by Premier Farnell. Bringing these two companies together allows us to capture market share earlier in the design process.”
