Avnet Abacus a ‘success’

A year after its creation, interconnect, passives and emech (IP&E) distributor Avnet Abacus – formed from Avnet Time and Abacus – has proved a successful move, according to its president Graham McBeth (pictured).

He said the strategy of building a pan European distributor with a strong local focus has been 'heavily backed' by suppliers and customers. The company, which returned sales of €265million in 2009, now has 110,000 stock lines, 13,700 active customers and an 8.2% share of the IP&E market. McBeth believes the company has the opportunity to increase that share through selling more to existing customers, targeting emerging markets and growing the customer base through suppliers reallocating direct sales to distribution. "It provides an excellent base for our organisation to grow significantly," he concluded.
