ARM's third quarter revenue of £144.6million is 20% up on the same period in 2011, generating a pretax profit of £68.1m. For the year to date, revenues have reached £412.7m, with profit of £196.6m.

"ARM has delivered another quarter of strong revenue and earnings growth," said chief executive Warren East, pictured. "As we move into an ever more connected world of mobile computing, cloud based networks and the Internet of Things, ARM is seeing increased demand for its high performance and low power technology. This demand is helping to drive ARM's licensing revenues and this quarter we saw market leaders license ARM's advanced processor technology for next generation super smartphones, tablets, and mobile and embedded computing applications." Key growth drivers in Q3 include increased shipments of ARM based chips and additional licensees. According to the company, 2.2billion ARM based chips shipped in the quarter, split equally between mobile and non mobile applications. On a processor family basis, 22% of shipments were Cortex-M based devices. An additional 29 licences were signed for ARM processors, including one for the Cortex-A15 processor and another for the ARMv8 architecture. Demand from the embedded market was said to have remained strong, with 13 more licenses for the Cortex-M range signed in Q3. This takes the total number of licenses signed to more than 160.
