Acquisition boosts high speed clocking portfolio

Analog Devices has acquired Multigig, a specialist in high performance clocking technology. The move is said by Analog to enhance it clocking capabilities in standalone and embedded applications and to strengthen it position in delivering high speed data converters and signal processing solutions.

"The acquisition of Multigig fits squarely in the middle of our high speed signal processing strategy and will further strengthen our portfolio of very high performance standalone and integrated clocking solutions," said Peter Real, pictured, Analog's vp of linear and radio frequency products and technology. "Continually evolving end markets, such as wireless and wire line communications, place ever more stringent demands on signal processing solutions and high performance clocking capabilities are critical to meeting customers' system requirements." Multigig's engineers will become part of Analog's clock design team and will move to the company's San Jose site. Prior to its acquisition by Microsemi, Zarlink invested in Multigig as part of a $10m series C funding round at the end of 2010.
