Every which way
How Linux is helping to enable designers to extend device networking connectivity every which way but loose. By Mike Richardson.
No man is an island and likewise, a device cannot communicate effectively in isolation. To remain competitive – and keep pace with ever changing technology – designers are increasingly finding that their core products need to be connected to the outside world.
However, the challenge now is that they need to deal with a mass of connectivity technologies that didn’t concern them before. And it’s not only Ethernet connectivity that they need to communicate with the rest of their system, but also Wi-Fi, USB, Bluetooth and gprs. This is proving increasingly difficult for customers, as they quickly need to understand connectivity issues that are outside their comfort zone and core product knowledge.
