Open Source conference will bring together business leaders, technicians and researchers on 24th – 25th June at Keble College in central Oxford.

The first TransferSummit conference will be held on the 24th - 25th June. The event will highlight, discuss and explain advantages and issues in open innovation and using Open Source software. It aims to bring 250 key business leaders, technicians and members of the academic research community up to speed on key factors at strategic and tactical levels in the use of Open Source software. The TransferSummit programme is led by OSS Watch in partnership with key individuals and organisations involved with the Open Source community including the Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC) and Oxford University. OSS Watch provides advisory services to UK institutions and projects that use or develop free and Open Source software. The event will take place at Keble College in central Oxford. "Despite 90% of global organisations using Open Source software, there are few events dedicated to getting the best out of open innovation," said Ross Gardler, OSS Watch Manager and TransferSummit program chair. "Different job roles have different interests; an executive level delegate might have concerns about costs, or applications, which will be different from the practical concerns of the technician. TransferSummit is the melting pot where those concerns and issues are brought together to help create more effective solutions for businesses and academic institutions." Speakers include: Stormy Peters, executive director, GNOME Foundation, Justin Erenkrantz, president, The Apache Software Foundation, Open Source expert Simon Phipps, Danese Cooper, CTO, Wikimedia, along with representatives from Mozilla Foundation, Google, NASA and Amazon. TransferSummit will compromise three content 'tracks' over the course of two days, featuring six sessions per track per day.
