An introduction to IEC 61508

Edif EDA’S introductory course provides delegates with an understanding of the IEC 61508 standard for the functional safety of electrical/electronic/programmable electronic (E/E/PE) systems.

Taking place at Leatherhead on April 4th, the course discusses relationships between all parts of the standard as well as an overview of hazard and risk assessment, including the concept and derivation of safety integrity levels.

Key concepts relating to the achievement of functional safety are covered, as are the implications of software and hardware design.

As the reliance on (E/E/PE) systems for the execution of complex safety functions continues to increase, so does the need to comply with industry best practice and to demonstrate due diligence.

Course trainers will be Stephen Hatton, consultant safety engineer at Edif ERA and Dr William Marsh, lecturer at the School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science, Queen Mary, University of London.
