Young engineers dominate BEEAS shortlist debate

The closing date for entries for the first run of such an event is always an anxious time. But the entries came in suitably large numbers and have continued to build since then. One category where we have seen significant progress during the five years of the BEEAS is in nominations for Young Design Engineer of the Year – and this year's entries are the best yet. And that's good news – not only for those who were shortlisted, but also for the industry. Deciding upon the shortlist was a heated and time consuming affair, but the finalists have been chosen. Our Young Design Engineer shortlist features recent graduates holding down important roles in companies such as Intel, Selex ES, Dialog Semiconductor and Surrey Satellite Systems. While they're designing complex devices and being named on patent applications – sometimes as sole inventor – they're also finding time to promote the electronics industry as well as making a significant difference within their companies. And the good news is there are more like our shortlisted candidates out there: the future of electronics isn't quite as bleak as some would paint it.
