Designers have always looked back to earlier times for inspiration – perhaps there are only so many ideas out there.
But perhaps Opis Technology should not have looked back to the days of the rotary dial telephone as the inspiration for a new mobile phone design. The Opis 60 looks just like a classic phone, says the designer, but comes with a battery and a SIM slot. Not only can you use it as a desk phone – it has a corded handset – you can also take it with you, if you have a large enough pocket.
While some enthusiasts will buy the device – along with some who yearn for the days of the rotary dial phone – it sounds like the Opis 60 is the consumer electronics item you never knew you didn't need.
