Graphene gets £50m backing from UK Government

The UK has led the research into graphene – rapidly being called the 'wonder material' by all and sundry.

The work resulted in the award of the Nobel Prize in Physics to Manchester academics Prof Andre Geim and Prof Konstantin Novoselov. However, the UK has a lamentable track record of commercialising basic research and it would be par for the course to see the benefits of the work being reaped by other countries. So it is good to see the Government investing £50million to create a research and technology hub that will move graphene much closer to being a manufacturable technology.
