243 Queen’s Awards, but where are all the electronics companies?

The latest Queen's Awards for Enterprise were announced last week. In all, 243 companies were recognised for their contributions to innovation, international trade and sustainable development; some getting the nod in more than one category.

Running down the list of winners, it's hard to find what you would call an electronics company; amongst the obvious names are Argon Design, CommAgility, Eskan, Gooch and Housego, Hummingbird Sensing and LEW Techniques. Congratulations to these companies and all the other winners.

Commenting on the Awards, business secretary Savid Javid said: "We are a country full of exciting and innovative businesses that deserve to be celebrated."

And that is an interesting comment. Is it really the case that most electronics related businesses in the UK are neither 'exciting' nor 'innovative'? We'd like to think they are both and the ideal opportunity for them to demonstrate this is via the British Engineering Excellence Awards - BEEAs.

The BEEAs not only reward companies who have shown innovation in design within the last year, but also the design engineers who made the innovations possible.

The Awards are open to all companies with an engineering design function in the UK. The judging standards are rigorous and the winners will be justifiably proud of their achievement.

Entering the BEEAs is simple and it's FREE. Just go to www.beeas.co.uk, where you'll find online entry forms for a number of categories. While entries close on 15 July, why not get your entry underway today?
