Harwin extends Kona range of high-reliability SIL connectors

Harwin has announced an upgrade to its Kona series of high-reliability connectors, extending the lineup by over 30% through the addition of angled thru-board connectors and accessories that include shielding.

The new Kona Horizontal lineup includes nine new right-angled 4-, 3- and 2-pin SIL (single-in-line) connectors for board or board-and-panel mounting. EMI shielding and housing rear-caps for each connector has also been created. Single pin right-angle cable female and 90-degree male connectors have also been added.

The high-reliability connectors have a pitch of 8.5 mm with a 3.65 mm PC tail. They feature individually shrouded recess contacts, polarized connections to prevent incorrect mating, and beryllium copper contacts with gold plating for reliable, durable, and corrosion-resistant electrical connections that gives a 60 A current rating per contact.

The RoHS compliant connectors' housings are manufactured using the high-performance thermoplastic PPS (polyphenylene sulfide), and all parts having an operational temperature range of -65 to +150oC.

The EMI shieldings are manufactured from an aluminium alloy, weigh between 6.8 and 9.4g and add just 2.2mm to the connector height. The housing rear caps are also constructed from PPS and have a mass of 0.50 to 1.05g.

Commenting Ryan Smart, Harwin’s VP of Product, said "The Kona range is used for extreme environments when failure is not an option. The addition of right-angled products will provide significant space-saving for our customers, allowing us to target an increased set of applications."

The Harwin Kona Horizontal lineup of angled connectors and accessories are available immediately, with evaluation samples on request online.

Demonstration kits have also been created.
