Power electronics is a key element in the world of electronic design and engineering and electronic engineers need to have a thorough understanding of this area if they’re going to create successful products.

In this section, New Electronics keeps designers up to date with the latest developments in the power electronics market – everything from DC/DC converters to IGBTs to battery technology. In fact, New Electronics covers any power product that can go on a PCB.

100W dc/dc converter for power radio applications

Ericsson Power Modules' PKM4116ND quarter brick dc/dc converter has been optimised to lower the number of components and reduce power losses. The product is said to be pin to pin compatible with similar products available and has been designed to enable systems designers to shorten time to market.

Six output dc/dc µModule regulator

Linear Technology has introduced the LTM8008, a six output dc/dc µModule regulator with operation from -40 to 150°C. The technology includes a 3 to 72V input SEPIC converter and six linear regulators, housed in a 15 x 15 x 2.82mm LGA package. The multiple output regulator is said to be suitable for dense point of load voltage regulation, in markets such as automotive, defence and avionics.

Single and three phase non invasive ac current probes

GMC-I PROSyS has introduced its PRO-flex ACP 3000 series of flexible ac current probes. The probes measure ac current from 100mA to 3 or to 6kA, depending on the model. Each features three ranges (30/300/3000A or 60/600/6000A) which, according to the company, covers almost every light industrial or industrial measurement application, including power quality and transient currents, machine monitoring and commissioning, and welding.

Arrow expands Embedded Platform Concept with series of new modules

Arrow Electronics has presented a series of new development modules based on the Arrow Embedded Platform Concept (EPC). Since its introduction in 2009, the distributor has expanded the concept with new hardware, software and engineering services to deliver system solutions for a range of potential industries.

ADM1275 hot swap controller and power monitor

Analog Devices has launched the ADM1275 hot swap controller and power monitor for 2 - 20V input supplies. The new technology has been designed to lower system cost, save board space and improve system reliability. It is also said to provide 'best in class' power monitoring accuracy of 0.7% current sense accuracy, with 20mV insertion loss when compared to alternative solutions.

TDK-Lambda to deliver on power at electronica 2010

TDK-Lambda UK will be showcasing its latest offering to industrial equipment manufacturers visiting this year's electronica. With a range of 1.5W to 100kW AC-DC power supplies, DC-DC converters, Programmable (Lab) DC power supplies and EMC/EMI noise filters, callers to the TDK-Lambda booth (Hall B2, Stand 205) will find a reliable and efficient product that will fit their applications.

Ultra wide input range power module

Designed for systems powered by 24 or 48V batteries, the PKM5000D is a quarter-brick, isolated dc/dc converter that is optimised to deliver what Ericsson Power Modules claims is the highest efficiency across an input voltage range of 18 to 75V.

High voltage, low dropout linear regulators

Linear Technology has announced new wider temperature range versions of its LT1763, LT3008 and LT3010 high voltage linear regulators. The new high reliability MP grade features operation from -55 to 125°C for a range of applications including avionics, military, industrial, automotive, rf and telecom.
