Fully embedded stand-alone Wi-Fi module

A 2.4GHz 802.11b/g/n fully embedded standalone Wi-Fi module has been launched by Panasonic Industry Europe, which it says is for highly integrated and cost-effective applications.

The PAN9420 device includes an integrated stack and API that is said to minimise firmware development and offers a full security suite.

Panasonic says the module comprises an efficient CPU high-sensitivity wireless radio, baseband processor, medium access controller, encryption unit, boot ROM with patching capability, internal SRAM and in-system programmable flash memory. It also features a shielded case, integrated crystal oscillators and a chip antenna.

The device should allow for storing web content and simultaneous Wi-Fi connections to smart devices and home network routers.

Panasonic also claims that the pre-programmed Wi-Fi SoC firmware will allow Ad-hoc mode (Wi-Fi Direct) applications, and that raw data can be sent from the UART to the air interface to smart devices, web servers or PC applications via transparent mode.
