Specialist CEM Gemini Tec, invest £500K in additional SMT capability.

Gemini Tec has become the first UK CEM to install the latest MY600 high-speed solder jet printer and two additional SMT placement machines from its supplier Mycronic.

Gemini Tec has invested a further £500K in additional SMT manufacturing capability at its Hampshire based production facility and once again has become the first UK CEM to install the latest solder jet printer from its supplier Mycronic of Sweden, the MY600.


More solder jet printing capability

The MY600 jet paste printer now delivers a speed increase of up to 50%, against its current MY500 printer, allowing an exceptionally high throughput of SMT boards through the production lines at Gemini Tec.

PCB designers who use the latest array of components and substrates, such as board cavities, complex package-on-package, QFNs and components with very small process windows will benefit from solder jet printing technology.

As solder jet printing removes the many variables and physical limitations presented with stencils, higher levels of product quality can be achieved first time, regardless of complexity and delivery lead-time.

One major commercial benefit is the expenditure of stencils. From the initial prototype through any design changes, no matter how small, customers are saving thousands of pounds in tooling charges.


More surface mount capacity

Two new Mycronic SMT machines have also been added to Gemini Tec's fleet of placement equipment, to provide a significant increase in capacity. The latest MY200SX14 and MY200LX14 models offer new capability for high mix products, due to 352 feeder positions and 40K cph placement rates.

Used in a Synergy format, the new equipment provides speed for high volume and flexibility for quick product changeovers to suit the variety of batch sizes that Gemini Tec produce.

The new SMT machines have been installed with automatic board loading, handling conveyors and a new BTU 7-stage reflow oven, to ensure the maximum efficiency for SMT production.
