Power management components

Power management components from Potentia respond to the increasing requirement for control and monitoring of larger numbers of lower voltage power rails and the need to provide power up and power down whilst handling faults.

At the launch of the PS-2406 configurable power subsystem controller and PS-1005 and PS-1006 primary side power management ics, Ian McGill, VP business development and marketing, said: “Given that an asic may have four voltage requirements, the number of rails is growing in response to the need to retain signal integrity. Systems with 18 power rails are not uncommon – board mounted power subsystems are definitely growing in complexity.”
The PS-2406 is a configurable power subsystem controller that can sequence, monitor and trim customer specified dc/dc converters. It can be programmed via its i²c interface or boundary scan port, whilst a PI-Link allows it to receive primary side voltage, current and fuse status information, from the PS-1006 for example.
The controller’s over voltage and under voltage levels, start up and shut down thresholds, sequencing delay and trim values can be configured using Potentia’s PowerCentre design software, with configuration data stored in the device’s non volatile on chip memory.
