Digital power monitors for blade systems are an indicator of a wider demand for power monitoring. By Vanessa Knivett.

Power management and monitoring has long been required in large telecoms infrastructures, but there are many indications that these requirements are spreading further afield. The combined pressures of integration and climbing processor power are breeding a demand to monitor power intelligently in all sorts of systems. The question is whether a solution for power monitoring is enough? Is there also the requirement to control it?
Overseeing the power consumption of individual blades in a rack mounted (blade) pc or communication system is becoming a particular area of interest.
