Driving mosfet developments

Dr Georges Tchouangue takes a closer look at mosfet modules for 42V automotive power supplies.

The need for 42V automotive designs is increasing rapidly as the electronics content of modern vehicles leads to power demands that exceed the load limit of conventional 12V schemes. Within the next three years, 42V power systems for such applications as starter generators, air conditioning motors, drive and brake by wire systems, cooling fans and pumps will be commonplace across all types of vehicle. As a result, the need for power semiconductors that combine good technical performance with high reliability in harsh conditions is rising.
