Developing a complex system on chip

Asic based system on chip technology is becoming increasingly important to engineers. By Armin Derpmanns.

It is predicted that the worldwide asic market, worth in the region of $13billion in 1999, grew by at least another 30% during 2000. Europe represents around 20% of this market. In application terms, telecommunications leads the way, making up 30% of the worldwide total. Multimedia and automotive designs are also major consumers. It is clear, therefore, that asics have an increasingly important role to play in the implementation of a wide variety of modern systems designs.
