Bridging the divide

Backplane communication technology is evolving rapidly, responding to industry's never ending demand for faster and faster data communications rates.

With PCI Express gaining a foothold in many application segments – ranging from notebook and desktop pcs to industrial computing, the mix of PCI and PCI Express components and modules will be as varied as anything that systems designers can create.

There is also a huge amount of legacy devices and code developed around PCI. This will continue to be used in new systems, along with components featuring integrated PCI Express interfaces. So bridges that translate conventional PCI protocols to PCI Express will be a necessary part of almost every system.
