Wireless division launched

Dedicated wireless distribution company from Electronic Components.

Distributor 2001 Electronic Components is responding to increasing demand for wireless communications by launching a company dedicated to wireless products. The new operation – 2001 Wireless – will handle technologies from a number of leading providers, including point to point transceivers chips and modules, GSM and GPRS modules and modems, GPS chips and modules, Bluetooth modules together with a full range of antennae and support hardware and software
Roy Greer, 2001's managing director, said: "We have assembled an array of suppliers, which will give our customers unparalleled choice when determining their future wireless products."

Amongst the companies which 2001 has signed is Finnish Bluetooth specialist BlueGiga. Managing director Jarkko Jukarainen said: "We're seeing a lot of oems getting interested in Bluetooth, driven particularly by the mobile communications sector who want to integrate Bluetooth."

2001 Wireless will be distributing BlueGiga's Wrap Thor Bluetooth module. Designed for embedded applications, the Class 1 device features CSR's BlueCore2 silicon, along with 8Mbyte of flash. Jukarainen said the module will help reduce design in time and time to market.
