Configurable data converter to bring design flexibility

In what seems to be the latest attempt to create a programmable analogue array, Maxim Integrated has launched the MAX11300, a configurable 20 channel mixed signal data converter.

According to Maxim, the device is suited to applications requiring multiple mixed signal operations and suggests industrial control and automation will be amongst the potential uses.

"Maxim is addressing the analogue design engineer's need for a multipurpose, highly integrated configurable solution so they can optimise designs, decrease BOM cost and shorten time to market," said Martin Mason, executive director. "The MAX11300's deterministic mixed signal PIXI technology demonstrates how Maxim uses analogue integration to create a flexible solution for complex industrial, medical and base station applications."

The device is configured using a graphical software package, with a drag and drop approach allowing designers to assign any function to any pin. Any of 20 pins can be assigned to an A/D converter, the D/A converter can be connected to any pin or a digital I/O assigned. In this way, the company adds, the 20 mixed signal I/O ports can be configured to optimise a design.

It integrates a 12bit multichannel A/D converter, a 12bit multichannel buffered D/A converter, high voltage analogue switches and digital I/O. Voltage ranges include -10 to 10V, 0 to 2.5V, ±5V and -10 to 0V.

Supplied in a choice of a 40pin 6 x 6mm TQFN or a 48pin 9 x 9mm TQFP, the device is specified for use in temperatures ranging from -40 to 105°C.
